Instant Pot Vortex Recipes (and Omni Recipes)

The Instant Pot Vortex Plus air fryer is hot off the shelves and, if you have bought one, you are probably looking for Instant Pot Vortex recipes. So I made a list of recipes to try for you!  But first, a few things you need to know about Instant Pot Vortex recipes and air fryer recipes in general.

Update: These recipes are all good for the Instant Pot Omni too! The only exception would be recipes that require use of the Vortex rotating basket. The Omni does not have that feature. See also my list of Instant Omni Recipes.

How to Find Instant Pot Vortex Recipes

Here is the thing about the Instant Vortex 7 in 1 air fryer. It is in many ways just another air fryer. Yes, it has the Instant Pot name and it can do things besides air fry, but ultimately you can use ANY air fryer recipe in it, you just might need to make a few adjustments in terms of how the food sits in it. So, before you get flustered over not seeing a ton of recipes developed specifically for the Vortex, keep in mind the basic premise that it is an air fryer. The same goes for the Instant Pot. You can use any pressure cooker recipe for it but might have to convert an automatic setting to manual. etc.

So, to find Instant Pot Vortex recipes, simply start looking to air fryer Facebook groups and Pinterest boards. Use Google to search for the types of recipes you want to make.

The Best Air Fryer Recipes to Convert to the Instant Vortex

OK, so I just wrote that you can use ANY air fryer recipe.  That is true, but some will be easier to use than others. There are generally a couple of types of air fryers. Some are rounded in shape with a basket and others are more akin to a mini oven with trays like the Vortex. Recipes that were designed for the square oven-type models will carry over the best because they will be developed to use the trays and tested with that sort of layout.  Likewise, recipes for convection ovens that have a rotisserie or rotating basket will carry over better because of their similarity to the Vortex.

Basket style air fryer recipes might need a bit of tweaking in terms of temperature and cooking time. But, the nice thing about the Vortex is that it has a window and a light, so you can keep an eye on how things are cooking.

    1. I made rotisserie chicken listed in the list above and show some pictures with the spit. I think yours was curved though? I don’t think it should be, so I suggest contacting Instant Pot about a replacement. Meanwhile, people have taken to putting chickens in the basket. I plan to try that fairly soon.

  1. We just bought our Vortex and haven’t used it yet. With all of these great sounding recipes, we will be soon!

  2. I’d love to find the right way to do sweet potatoes chips and fries in my Vortex. They haven’t come out crispy Also, a recipe for fries made with gold or red potatoes. I’ve never had an air fryer, so this is brand new to me. How do I know when to use the rotisserie basket (it doesn’t seem to turn in air fryer mode) and when to use the trays?

    1. I’ll do some looking for some chip recipes to add to the list! I plan to make sweet potato chips myself at some point. The basket should rotate on air fry mode. You have to turn on air fry and also push the rotate light. Then the basket should turn. For crispy chips, I suggest slicing as thin as possible, spraying fairly generously with oil (I like to use avocado oil) and frying in the basked on rotate at 380 to 400 for a fairly long time. It is the time and temp that you will have to experiment with. I’m guessing that it will be well over 30 minutes to get them really crisp. You could also try using the trays and flipping them from time to time, but that will make less and take away the convenience factor. What is nice about the basket is that, once you figure out the time and temp needed for items, you can pretty much walk away and forget about it while it runs.

  3. I would like to use the dehydration function but have not found any information about this. Has anyone used that yet for something like strawberries or apples?

  4. I want to dehydrate raspberries to crush for raspberry sugar. After 7 hours at 125 degrees there was no change. Help.

  5. I don’t think this will be published here. Yesterday I bought a Vortex 6 quart Air Fryer. I expected recipes: None came with the Air Fryer. After exploring the web, I find I have bought a product that has been dumped on the public with the attitude that it’s up to the buyer to find out how to cook WHATEVER on their Fryer. Carleen’s response to Shannon’s failed attempt to dry strawberries, which could take 25-18 hours on the Vortex, (Yikes), made me wonder why Shannon bought a fryer (not a dryer) appliance in the first place. To me the Vortex is supposed to help cut down on fried foods, not waste time experimenting how to prepare and cook them. Surely, someone at Instant has the sense to know that the purchaser expects them to have tested the Fryer on prep and fry settings. Else how do they know what their Air Fryers are able to fry? Even microwave manufactures give setting/instructions to bake a potato. It is Instant’s lack of responsibility to customers that irritates and offends me.

    1. Same here, expected at least a start pamphlet with basics times and temperatures for different foods. Very disapointed, NOT a time sanor when I have to spend 2 hours searching for information and rrecipes

    2. I couldn’t agree more with Helens comment…here it is, 2 YEARS LATER, and still no recipe pamphlet comes with the fryer. Its like give me your money…heres your fryer..now you figure out what to do with it! Wow!

  6. Exactly what the two previous comments said…it is NOT time saving when I have to search and search for recipes! Especially when they are all mixed up with the actual Instant Pot recipes and other air fryers. Get moving on a good, reliable cookbook please!

    1. Hi, The original comment on this appeared to be direct to the manufacturer. I agree that it would be nice if the brand included some recipes with the product. They do have some on their website though. Anyway, to be clear, this site is not associated with the Instant Pot brand. I am simply a blogger who enjoys cooking with their products. Knowing that recipes can be hard to find, I made a few roundups such as this one to at least pull together some recipes for the Vortex or that will be compatible with the vortex, along with some information on converting recipes. As much as I would love to put out a cookbook, as a part-time blogger with a full time (and fairly stressful) job, I lack the resources to do so at this time. Maybe in the future. If I do, I will definitely post it here!
