Air Fryer Roast Beef (Instant Pot Vortex and Omni)
With the rotisserie on the Instant Pot Vortex and Instant Omni, I was pretty excited to try air fryer roast beef on the rotisserie. This recipe can work with any decent beef roast cut. I used top round, but eye of round, sirloin tri tip, chuck, tenderloin or prime rib would also work. Learn about cuts of beef here. If you don’t have a rotisserie, simply set your beef roast in the air fryer basket and turn it during cooking.

Air Fryer Roast Beef
For air fryer rotisserie roast beef in the Vortex or Omni, choose a roast that is under 4 pounds as that is the maximum weight for the rotisserie. For a basket style fryer or if cooking on a tray, you might be able to go larger. Mine was 2.5 pounds.

Preparing the beef roast is easy. Mine came already tied. If your roast is not tied, tying it will keep it nicely compact for the rotisserie.

Rub the roast with olive oil and add seasonings of choice. In my case I rubbed it generously with Montreal Steak Seasoning. Just plain salt and pepper is fine too. Others like to add thyme or rosemary.

For the Instant Pot Vortex or Instant Omni, place the roast on the rotisserie rod. The spit pushed through my roast quite easily. Using the rotisserie tool, place the roast beef in the air fryer.
Air Fryer Beef Roast Cooking Time
The cooking time will vary based on the weight of the beef. Using the times suggested for a convection oven, I estimated 15 minutes per pound and 360 degrees for rare center beef and this was pretty accurate. I cooked mine for 35 minutes and got a rare center in the thickest part of the roast to a medium rare center in the thinner part. The best way to measure though is to use a meat thermometer and check the roast from time to time.

Take the roast beef out when it is about 5 degrees below your desired doneness. Allow the meat to rest under a foil tent for about five minutes. It will continue to go up in temperature during that time.
The following temperatures for beef should be used to calculate when to take the roast out:
- Rare: 115 to 120°F (125 final temperature)
- Medium-Rare: 125 to 130°F (135 final temperature)
- Medium: 135 to 140°F (145 final temperature)
- Medium-Well: 140 to 145°F (150 final temperature)
- Well-Done: 150 to 155°F (160 final temperature)

The USDA recommends steaks and roasts be cooked to 145°F and rested for at least 3 minutes. I tend to prefer rare. You will note that when doing a beef roast in the air fryer or in a convection oven that the meat will get more cooked toward the edges. If you want to avoid that, try using a Sous Vide to cook to the desired temperature and then air fry on high heat (400 degrees or more) for just a few minutes to crust up the outside.

Serving Air Fryer Beef Roast

I served the beef roast with some roasted broccoli. I also really like roasted asparagus with roast beef. Certainly a good air fryer baked potato would also pair well with it. Or try some air fryer vegetables.
Beef is also usually good with a sauce or gravy. For something easy, you can try the mix of gravy, cream of chicken soup, and cream of mushroom soup from this Oven Baked Round Steak recipe. Simply heat it up and serve with your beef. That is also a good recipe overall if you want to make oven-baked steak instead of using your air fryer.
I like to add a horseradish sauce for dipping and you can also thin slice roast beef for sandwiches.

Need to make it easier to find stuff and have recipes for Sirloin steaks, Delmonico Steaks and so on.
I’m just one person, so detailed recipes, while in the works, will take some time. Working on it!
I am very disappointed in the recipes for the Instant Omni Toaster Oven. I just purchased one and have covered this web site and cannot fine any meat loaf recipes for the above. I have not cooked in it because nothing gives me the actual settings that I need to use.
Hi! Because it is fairly new, there are not a lot of Omni Specific recipes out there yet, but you can easily adapt general convection oven or air fryer recipes to it. I have not made meatloaf in it, but would likely bake it at about fifteen degrees lower temp than my regular oven recipe and for around the same amount of time, monitoring internal temperature from time to time in case it was done early.
I use the Virtex Plus basket style Rotisserie
Just got a Sous Vide…going to try it
Vortex Plus max temp 400 degrees
Let us know how it turns out! Do you plan to Sous Vide it first? If so, sous vide it to a bit below the desired internal temperature (5-10 degrees) and then air fry at higher temp (400 is good) for just long enough to brown the outside. That is how I do it when using sous vide and the grill.
Excellent recommendation coupling this with Sous Vide (an hour at 130 degrees for medium rare)
I’m confused with roasting you didn’t say to use the roast icon or the survey
first time doing a roast thanks
Hi! The roast button, just like the air fry button, is really just a preset. You could push either of them and adjust it from the preset that it gives. The key is to set it for 360 degrees and for about 15 minutes per pound, but see the notes for the temperature readings for your desired final temperature. I’m not sure what you mean by the “survey?”
I am going to keep this brief. In a word this was AMAZING.
Glad that you liked it!
We normally don’t buy roasts this small, however, I wanted to experiment with a rotisserie roast and man I am very happy I had ‘chanced it’. We bought a sirloin tip roast, 1.114 kg. (approx. 2.5 lbs) and followed your seasoning instructions. The only alteration I made was the temperature: We prefer our roasts slow cooked no higher than 250 degrees with a 125 degree internal temp. and in a convection oven we would sear the top at the end of the roasting time. Since I used the Vortex rotisserie set on airfry there was no need to sear at the end after all. The meat was perfect! If sliced thinner you wouldn’t have needed a knife to cut. Lolol. And don’t get me started on how tasty the drippings were to make the gravy. Thank you for your site, as you covered any and all possible questions!
Glad you liked it!
Can you air fry a roast that frozen?
I would not recommend trying to air fry a frozen roast. Most likely you would end up with an overcooked exterior and undercooked or still frozen interior.
