You can dress up macaroni and cheese is multiple ways using a basic recipe. Try adding any combination of  the following to any base recipe to create a more gourmet macaroni and cheese.

  • Hot dogs
  • Hot sauce
  • Sriracha
  • Any vegetables

How to Make Mac and Cheese Creamier

A few things you can try for creamier macaroni and cheese is to use cream instead of milk, add sour cream or cream cheese, and cook in a broth instead of water.  Note with the Instant Pot though that cream does not hold up sell under pressure, so add it after cooking!

How to Make Baked Macaroni and Cheese 

If you want to spice up your Instant Pot mac and cheese even more, try transferring it to a baking dish when it is done, sprinkling some cheese on top, and baking it! You can bake at 350 for about 15 minutes or simply set the broiler and take it out when the cheese is starting to brown.   Or, pop it in your Instant Vortex or Instant Omni air fryer!

Avoiding Burn Notices with Pasta

To avoid the macaroni sticking to the pressure cooker and causing a burn notice, do not stir in your pasta. Put all liquids in first and then pour the pasta on top. Pasta also sometimes causes foam when doing a quick release. You can pulse the release valve with a spoon handle to help avoid a mess if you find that your pasta dishes are foaming up.
