Instant Pot Duo Crisp Sausage and Onions Recipe

Instant Pot Duo Crisp Sausage and Onions

This recipe is super easy. Start with some sausage. I like to use regular pork smoked sausage and beef smoked sausage.   I usually use Eckrich sausage.

I use two onions when I make this recipe because I love onions and they tend to reduce a lot in size.  You can get away with using one if you want less onion.

There are a lot of basic recipes out there for Instant Pot sausage and peppers and you could make that the same way by substituting bell peppers for the onion in this recipe.  I’m not a huge green pepper fan, so I use onions instead. This recipe also works to make Instant Pot sausage and potatoes. Simply add in potatoes!

Cut up the onion and saute it until it is translucent. Then transfer it and sliced up sausage to the air fry basket.

Air fry on 400 for about 25 minutes until the sausage browns, stirring every five minutes or so.

You definitely want it browned up well, that adds makes for nicely caramelized onions and tasty sausage!

If you are using a regular instant pot, saute the sausage on saute mode until it starts to brown, usually about 10 minutes. Then add the onions and keep sauteing until done. It will take 20 minutes or so.

You can make this recipe on the stove top the same way.

Finally, you can make this in your Instant Vortex or Instant Omni by air frying everything in a pan and giving it a good stir every five minutes.

  1. This may be the first recipe I make in my new DUO Crisp! My body does not tolerate onions well and my husband loves them so I’ll sub out at least half the onions for a more traditional sausage & peppers dish.

    1. The time depends a lot on how browned you want your sausage and how caramelized you want the onions. The type of sausage used can affect it too. For example, beef sausage tends to brown very quickly while pork tends to take longer. Hence why the instructions note to stir every five minutes until desired doneness. I’ll update the post soon to add this information.
