Instant Pot and Duo Crisp Chicken Casserole
This Instant Pot Duo Crisp chicken casserole is a family favorite that can also be made in your regular Instant Pot and finished in the oven or air fryer. I give you instructions for each way. This also can be made in the Ninja Foodi for a Ninja Foodi chicken casserole. Update: This recipe also works with the upgraded Instant Pot Pro Crisp and Air Fryer, which you can view here at Amazon: Instant Pot Pro Crisp. You can see user Instant Pot Pro Crisp reviews there too.
I can’t say enough good things about this Instant Pot chicken noodle casserole. It is super easy to make, has wonderful flavor, and feeds a full family.
Don’t have a way to finish it to make the crispy top? No worries! It tastes great without that step too!
Instant Pot and Instant Pot Duo Crisp Chicken Casserole
I made this casserole with leftover rotisserie chicken. Here is a great recipe for that using your Duo Crisp: Instant Pot Duo Crisp Whole Chicken.
You can also use store bought rotisserie chicken or in a pinch use canned chicken. If you want to use raw chicken, cook that separately in the Instant Pot and then shred it.
The ingredients are quite simple for this recipe with cream of chicken and mushroom soup and French’s Onions being key players. I love that soup blend and use it casseroles all the time. I also add some sour cream and cheddar cheese to the casserole.
For noodles, I prefer nice wide Egg noodles. These have the bonus of cooking fast.
Start off with your chicken and vegetables of choice. I use half of a large onion, celery, carrot, and some frozen peas, frozen broccoli, or frozen veggie mix.
For carrots, I normally just chop up some baby carrots.
Dump it all in the Instant Pot with 5 cups of chicken broth and some seasoning. I use garlic powder and salt and pepper to taste.
Dump the egg noodles into the Instant Pot and give it a gentle stir, but try to keep a lot of the noodles from settling on the bottom of the pot.
Instead, press them into the liquid. You do want them all damp/wet though. I did have plenty of noodles touching the bottom and did not get a burn notice.
Pressure cook on high pressure for 4 minutes, followed by a quick release. Then stir in the can of cream of chicken and mushroom soup, sour cream, some cheddar cheese, and some French’s onions (about 1/3 of the can).
If you want, you can heat the casserole up on saute and serve as is, but with the Duo Crisp, the best part is crisping the top.
If you don’t have an Instant Pot Duo Crisp, you can also transfer the chicken casserole to a baking pan and crisp up the top in the oven or air fryer.
Making Crispy Chicken Noodle Casserole in the Instant Pot Duo Crisp
Here is the good part! Put the rest of the French’s onion on top of the casserole and air fry in the Duo Crisp (or Ninja Foodi) for 4-5 minutes at 400. This will give you a beautiful crispy top.
If using your oven or air fryer, transfer the casserole to a pan and set it to 400 or broil until browned.

Hi Carleen
Just got a Duo Crisp and this weekend pressure cooked my first pot roast and air fried some French fries.
I still have a dozen boxes of rice a roni can these be prepared in the Pressure cooker?
Hi! Congrats on getting your Duo Crisp! I haven’t personally made boxed Rice a Roni in the Instant Pot, but here is a blogger who did. Her directions look good to me! https://www.adventuresofanurse.com/make-instant-pot-boxed-rice-roni/
I made this tonight. My nine-year-old, husband, and I enjoyed it. The 12-year-old didn’t want to wait. Five cups of chicken broth seemed like too much liquid. I couldn’t find cream of chicken and mushroom, so I used cream of chicken. It was still pretty bland. Is one teaspoon of garlic powder enough?
You can certainly add additional garlic powder if you like. I normally do not find this one bland at all, if part because the French’s add a lot of flavor, but the lack of cream of mushroom could have contributed. Note that if using less chicken broth it is very important not to stir the noodles to the bottom in order to avoid a burn notice. Normally exces li
Hi! You could certainly add additional garlic powder if you like. I would suggest using cream of mushroom over cream of chicken if you cant find the combo kind. That might make it seem less bland to you. Normally though the French’s onions give it plenty of flavor. If using less than 5 cups liquid, watch for burn notices. You might be able to get away with 4 cups. Just try to keep the noodles off the bottom of the pot.
My whole family loved this recipe. I only used cream of chicken not the mushroom blend and doubled the veggies. It was super creamy and delicious!
What size Instantpot is this recipe for? We have a newly purchased 6 qt. size and I’m eager to try this recipe but I don’t want to over fill the pot. And also there’s just the two of us to feed. So will this recipe work if I halve it?
Hi! This recipe was made in an 8Qt Instant Pot Duo Crisp. But you can make it just fine in a 6Qt and then finish it in the oven to crisp the top. Cutting the recipe in half is just fine!
